Future of Mobile Infrastructure- Leaner, Fitter and stronger than ever!

Future of Mobile Infrastructure- Leaner, Fitter and stronger than ever!

The boom in the mobile app market has now led to smarter intelligent apps. User expectations naturally have also gone up. As users now demand sophisticated and demanding applications, the networks that support the users and the apps are bearing the brunt and are now looking to (as a certain Darwin said) “adapt” to the situation. After-all it is the voluminous usage these apps have generated that is the revenue source for the network operators.

According to a report on “Anatomizing Application Performance Differences on Smartphones” and LACNICXV presentation on Mobile Network Challenges, the traditional mobile network contributes over 80% of the total latency from a mobile device to Internet landmark servers. So a leaner and a fitter network is the need of the day. Mobile service providers are adding network intelligence by making their networks more flat and smarter. One of the ways they are doing this is through deep packet inspection (DPI). The right content inspection technology will give the service providers insight to what and when is going through their network.

For example http://www.citrix.com will use HTTP as transport. Here the DPI engine must understand the transport layer protocol and the interaction procedure. Further the content inspection engine should be able to deduce interaction between the user and the specific website/app in order to differentiate traffic into video, audio, chat etc.

NetScaler seems to be a perfect solution in this scenario where in it can be deployed as a policy control device in the network to distribute and share protocol and data stream based intelligence. The NetScaler here can undertake traffic inspection, application optimization, content caching, and further optimize traffic routing, handling and help the network to undertake intelligent decisions as to when and where to offload traffic, thus leading to a leaner, fitter and stronger than ever network.
